We live in a country where we enjoy a high level of personal freedom and our individual rights are cherished and protected. And yet in everyday life there will be times when we feel trapped and burdened by the weight of work. Whether we’re juggling multiple responsibilities, pressures from targets and deadlines, or simply navigating the demands of colleagues, friends and family – it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and for resentment to build up.
So what resources does God give us to live well, especially when work feels like it’s compromising our freedom?
In this seminar Antony Billington will help us explore the biblical book of Exodus. It’s a book that isn’t afraid to show the injustice and harsh realities of life under tyrannical leadership. At the same time we see God at work bringing hope to liberate and redeem us. Antony will give us an applied introduction to Exodus, helping us connect the big theme of freedom to our work and how God liberates us to play our part in his purposes for the world.
Antony Billington is the author of the Gateway Series bible study guides on Exodus and Proverbs. He currently splits his work between Theology Advisor at London Institute of Contemporary Christianity and serving as pastor of the Beacon Church in Ashton-in-Makerfield. He’s taught theology at the London School of Theology for 16 years.
His books include Whole Life, Whole Bible – a book of 50 Bible readings, and The Whole of Life for Christ – seven studies on whole-life discipleship.
Living or working in the city; with religious beliefs or none – all are welcome.
